A team, carrying out an operation to rescue a four-year-old Anju stuck in a 48-ft deep open borewell at a Rajasthan village, finally succeeded in pulling her out on Sunday.

The rescued girl was unconscious when pulled out and was rushed to the hospital.

Earlier, the rescue team reached near the trapped girl by digging a tunnel parallel to the borewell at a distance of five feet. The rescuers are about three feet above her, official sources said.

Five JCB and two other big machines and several other necessary equipment were pressed into service.

Anju, a resident of Moradi village in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, had fallen into the borewell last evening while she was playing there.

Members of Emergency Response Team, medical and health department, police and other concerned government departments were present on the spot.

An oxygen pipe was put into the borewell to help the girl breathe while water, milk and food were made available to her using a rope.
